From the minute we sat down together, Junior Mark Mast was warm, grounded and approachable.

Mast was Athlete of the Week for this past week.

He grew up in Harrisonburg, Va and is a midfielder for the EMU Men’s Soccer team.

When asked what inspired him to play soccer he answered, “I’ve played soccer my whole life, my dad is the coach here at EMU, so ever since I could almost walk, I have been playing soccer.”

He spoke favorably of athletes at EMU, “I think all athletes, especially here at EMU, work hard and all strive to be as good as they can be.”

Mast said soccer benefits other aspects of his life, “It teaches me things like leadership and teamwork, which I think play vital roles in other aspects of your life.”

Besides playing on the soccer field, Mark Mast has aspirations to attend dental school once he graduates from EMU.
