In this week’s “Inside Athletics” podcast, Dave and James discuss the results of the last few days and how our teams are heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. Dave closes the show talking about the retirement of Phil Guengerich, our Events Coordinator, and the efforts to replace all that he has done for EMU Athletics.

Inside Athletics is a weekly podcast hosted by Director of Athletics, Dave King. The podcast offers a synopsis of what is happening in EMU athletics, but also delves deeper into how athletics at EMU shapes lives and enhances college educations by positively impacting an athlete’s understanding of self, others, and God. Sports Information Director James De Boer is a regular guest with EMU coaches and athletes making appearances as well.

Rev. Burton Robinson,  Pastor of Old Bridge United Methodist Church in Woodbridge, VA, is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite Seminary.  In this chapel, he reflects on his experience at EMS.

Dave also talks about the upcoming NCAA D-III Week, and how D-III sports are much different from D-I sports.

CIE Interfaith Forum: Amir Akrami and Mark Thiessen Nation

& Center for Interfaith Engagement, Faculty/Staff Speakers.

Amir Akrami and Mark Thiessen Nation – Pluralism, Particularity & the Way to Peace: A Muslim and a Mennonite in Dialogue. Thiessen Nation is Professor of Theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary and Akrami is Visiting Muslim Scholar at EMU’s Center for Interfaith Engagement. They each speak from their respective approaches followed by opportunity to engage the audience in discussion.

Seminary Capstone Presentation – Cindy Skinner

Cindy Skinner,
A Call to Recover the Healing Ministry of the Church.

Cindy attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and majored in Psychology, receiving her B.A. in 2008.  Prior to college, she worked for Weston Transfer as a secretary for 13 years.  Cindy has a son, Delbert, and a daughter, Dodi, who both have families of their own.  She is proud grandmother to Haley (18), Austin (16), Kyra (9), Zoe (7) and Garrett (5).  She is currently a local pastor in the United Methodist Church, serving the South Fork Charge in Brandywine, WV where she pastors four small churches.  After graduation, she plans to continue to pastor in the Methodist Church where ever she is sent. 

Students in the seminary’s Master of Divinity program complete Capstone Integration Projects across the two semesters of their senior year. During the fall semester, they negotiate with the professors in the Formation in Missional Leadership class the design of their projects. They then complete their projects in the spring, producing a final paper and making a public presentation. These podcasts are of students’ public presentations.
