Dr. Gerald Shenk launches the University Colloquium Series with a talk on Theologies of Pluralism: Why we need to be in Abraham’s Tent. Dr. Fred Kniss, provost, introduces the series and Dr. Shenk.
The University Colloquium, an ongoing series of cross-disciplinary conversations geared to enhance intellectual community at EMU, is intended to be a conversation engaging the entire university. All faculty, staff, and students are invited.
The lectures are followed by opportunity for Q&A and informal conversation over a light reception.

Pastor Duane Yoder preaches on “Lord I Believe, Help Me with My Unbelief” for the Faith and Doubt: Finding our Way chapel series. Duane Yoder is pastor at Lindale Mennonite Church.
Greg Boyd is founder and senior pastor of Woodland Hills Church. He is an internationally-recognized theologian, preacher, teacher, apologist and author. Among his numerous writings are Letters from a Skeptic, The Myth of the Christian Nation, and most recently The Jesus Legend and Lord or Legend.
This public lecture event exploring The Myth of a Christian Nation is a part of Eastern Mennonite Seminary‘s annual School for Leadership Training.
In response to the recent earthquake in Haiti, Pastor Duane Yoder shares thoughts about the tragedy and ways to pray and respond. Duane Yoder is pastor at Lindale Mennonite Church and was planning to speak in a chapel series kicking off a “Faith and Doubt” series for the semester. He’ll pick up with that series the rest of the week.

As part of EMU’s MLK celebration events, guest speaker at School for Leadership Training, Chris Johnson, speaks on “Being Kingdom-Correct in a Politically Driven World”.
EMU observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2010 with a chapel service and several other special events Jan. 15-18.
In this chapel, Luke Hartman, an administrator at Skyland Middle School in Harrisonburg, speaks on “The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” Hartman, who is also an adjunct faculty member in EMU’s MA in education program, bases his remarks on Luke 4:18-19.
Chapel concludes with a time of sending for the Middle East Cross-cultural seminar group.
Loren Swartzendruber speaks on “Don’t Stop Asking Questions” for opening convocation to kick off the Faith and Doubt: Finding Our Way chapel series. There is also a time of sending for the Guatemala Cross-cultural seminar group.
