Peacebuilding Leadership

Abdulkadir is a lead researcher at Peace and Development Research Centre (PDRC), based in Garowe Puntland State of Somalia. She has been working on the decentralization of power to local authorities and building relationships between local leaders and their communities with particular focus on women, youth and marginalized people. Although Somali economy, is based on livestock, farming and fisheries, the region has suffered prolonged droughts. For a decade she has been involved in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, mostly with clan or community conflicts based on water and pasturelands. In 2017, she was awarded the Women Peacebuilder for Water (WPW) Prize for her contribution towards the resolution of water-related conflicts in Puntland.
