Alan Marr has been one of the pastors at St. Kilda Baptist Church since December 2011. It is a relatively small but courageous congregation in the inner city of Melbourne. St. Kilda has the highest proportion of people living with mental illness in Melbourne; it has the highest proportion of LBGTI people in Melboune, as well. It is a tourist hub with many backpackers passing through. There are many homeless people. The church has developed a reputation for its commitment to supporting people on the margins and has a good time doing it.

As well as his church commitment, Alan has a part-time mediation consultancy working mainly in the not-for-profit sector.

Alan also chairs the Peace Commission of the Baptist World Alliance, which he is glad to say occasionally gives him opportunity to visit good friends in Harrisonburg.
