In their first ever trip the NCAA National Championships, the EMU softball team will play the third-ranked team in the nation, Salisbury University. The Royals, 19-16, will take on the Sea Gulls, 33-2, at 10 a.m. in Newport News, Va.

The Lady Royals completed the ultimate Cinderella story April 25, finishing the softball conference tourney with a 4-0 mark to claim the ODAC crown. The team will move on to NCAA tournament play in mid-May.

Thursday night in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals, the women finally broke through as they knocked off second-seeded R-MC, 69-64. EMU moves on to play in the semifinals Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.

Entering the program’s 11th season, EMU’s women’s soccer team has a new look this year. A handful of seniors graduated from last season’s 9-8 team, which finished 7-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
