Big game experience pays off in big games. And while none of the Eastern Mennonite men’s basketball players had played a game in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship before this weekend, Eli Crawford used his experience from numerous high school state tournament games to help will the Runnin Royals to an 85-71 win over Wilmington Saturday night.

The Runnin Royals got the privilege of hosting their first ever NCAA National Championship game in Yoder Arena. The defensive-minded Colonels of Centre College took the Runnin out of the Royals, but the Eastern Mennonite men found a way to grind out the win, 63-53, to advance to Saturday’s second round.

For the first time in school history, the men’s basketball team received a bid to play in the NCAA D-III National Tournament. Even better, the Runnin Royals will also host a pod of games the first weekend, giving fans another chance to see the men play in Harrisonburg.
