EMU Basketball Men Hoping To Catch Another Round Of Lightning

EMU men’s basketball Coach Kirby Dean will quickly stop short of directly comparing this year’s team with his 2009-10 team which made the program’s only NCAA Tournament appearance.  But it’s hard not to compare them. In 2009-10, the Runnin Royals returned all five of their starters from a 15-11 campaign and vaulted to the Elite Eight in the national tourney, fini ...More

Hello, Player Calling

When Kirby Dean first took the men’s basketball coaching job at Eastern Mennonite University in 2003, he didn’t spend much time recruiting transfer players. Nine years later, that hasn’t changed. The difference is that now, transfers are coming to him. Division III EMU will debut at least two and possibly three transfers this season, including power forw ...More

The One and Only

Courtesy Daily News Record, Jan. 26, 2011 The student body at Eastern Mennonite University is about 45 percent Mennonite. So as the only Mennonite on the school’s most popular athletic team, it isn’t hard to figure out why Owen Longacre is a fan favorite at Yoder Arena. “I stand out a little on the team, obviously,” said Longacre, a junior forward ...More

Royals Dominate Second Half to Control Bridgewater

The first half wasn’t so pretty, but the second half was something to write home about, as Eastern Mennonite used a 53-18 second stanza to roll to an 80-49 victory at rival Bridgewater Wednesday night. Neither team played well to start the game, as there were nearly more fouls than points over the first few minutes.  Bridgewater finally broke off a 9-9 tie with an 8-0 run to go up 17- ...More

EMU Men Run by Frostburg State, 80-59

Despite having a number of players affected by an illness, the Runnin Royals took care of business Monday in a matinee at Frostburg State, running away with an 80-59 non-conference win. Eastern Mennonite scored first in the game, but made a statement on the defensive end.  The men frustrated the Bobcats into a season low 31.7% from the floor and never trailed. FSU was still withi ...More

Royals Romp On Shenandoah On Opening Night

Now we know how the new Runnin Royals will look – just as fast and high-pressure as last year.  In their first game of 2011-12, the men picked out 17 steals and forced 32 turnovers en route to an 87-61 rout of visiting Shenandoah. Sophomore Adam Burroughs (Roanoke, VA/Northside) st ...More
