Former Deputy Foreign Minister of Ghana Emmanuel Bombande has been appointed by the United Nations (UN) as its senior mediation advisor in the Central African Republic. Bombande earned a master’s degree in conflict transformation from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in 2002.

Former Deputy Foreign Minister of Ghana Emmanuel Bombande has been appointed by the United Nations (UN) as its senior mediation advisor in the Central African Republic. Bombande earned a master’s degree in conflict transformation from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in 2002.

He will assume duties on Aug. 1.

Before becoming deputy foreign minister by appointment of the former Ghanaian president in July 2016, Bombande had been the special Assistant/adviser to the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to West Africa and was head of the UN Office for West Africa.

A co-founder of the West Africa Network for Peace-Building (WANEP), Bombande stepped down from the executive directorship in January 2015. He hasbeen teaching various peace building courses in different institutions including Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, Ghana; the University of Ghana’s Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy; and the Folke Bernadotte Academy in Sweden.
