Sophomore field hockey player Emily Augsburger earns all-state second team honors

Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had a breakout effort in her sophomore season and she was rewarded  with a spot on the All-State Second Team.  The all-state teams are awarded by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Along with being a disruptive force in the defense, Augsburger routinely moved up on the attack and finished third for the Royals with 23 shots.  She ended with one goal and two assists, while adding a defensive save from her back line duties.

Earlier this fall the field hockey defender was named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference First Team while Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) landed on the All-ODAC Third Team.

Armstrong led Eastern Mennonite in goals and points, finishing with four goals and two assists for 10 points.  The attacking midfielder notched a clutch score in the 66th minute of the 1-0 win at Ferrum on Sept. 19, giving the women their first win of the year.  Armstrong finished with two game-winning goals this season.

It was the first All-ODAC award for either of the women.

Eastern Mennonite completed a rebuilding year under first-year coach E.A. Jackson and will graduate just two seniors.
