Office 2007 Install Prompt

August 14th, 2009 – by Gregory

Microsoft Office 2007 has been available for some time for installation on EMU faculty/staff Windows computers via EMU Applications, but less than 40 computers have it installed. We’d like this number to be higher, as Microsoft now only offers limited support for Office 2003. (more…)

Adobe Reader and Flash Player Upgrade

Security vulnerabilities that are being exploited by Grumblar and other malware have been patched in the latest versions of Adobe Reader and Flash Player. Using ZENworks, we will upgrade Reader and Flash Player to the latest versions on all EMU faculty/staff computers. Because installing the latest version of Flash doesn’t remove previous vulnerable versions, Flash will be uninstalled, and then reinstalled after a reboot. (more…)

ZENworks desktop agent upgrade

March 18th, 2009 – by Gregory

We need to upgrade the ZENworks agents that are installed on all EMU faculty and staff Windows computers. I’m hopeful that this update will resolve some of the issues we’ve experienced with reliable application deployment and windows update policy settings.

Beginning Wednesday afternoon, this upgrade process will cause the EMU Applications folder and associated shortcuts to disappear until the computer is restarted. If you notice that your EMU Applications folder has disappeared, wait for a few minutes, and restart your computer when it is convenient.

If you don’t need to use anything from EMU Applications, you can wait until the end of the day to restart your computer. After the computer has rebooted, you should see the EMU Applications folder on your desktop.

Internet Explorer 7: Update

May 15th, 2008 – by Ben Beachy

Since the IE7 update, some users across campus have had the computer “hang” shortly after logging into Novell. This issues is currently being looked into. For the time being, IE7 is NOT being pushed to computers that haven’t had the update until this issues has been resolved.

To cope with the issue, when users eventually DO get logged into his/her computer, instead of shutting down for the evening do the following:

1. Go to Start–> Shutdown
2. Select “standby” from the drop-down menu
3. Click OK
