Moving employee Z-drive data to Microsoft Royals domain
August 17th, 2011 – by Jack
On Friday evening (08/19/2011), Information Systems will be moving files currently located on the Faculty/Staff Novell server (FS) to our Microsoft Royals domain servers. This will change what happens when employees log into the network during and after the moving is performed. We want to make EMU employees aware of the following details:
Date/time for the student data moving process:
Begins: 5:30PM, Friday, 19 Aug
Ends: noon on Saturday, 20 Aug
Files that will be moved:
- Employee Z-drive files
While the moving process is active
Impact to employees while the moving process is active:
- NO ACCESS TO Z-DRIVE FILES – Employees will not be able to access files on the Z-drive. We want all employees to log out of Novell by 5:30pm on Friday (8/19) to ensure that no Z-drive files are open during the moving process. On-screen Novell messages will be sent prior to the start of the moving process.
- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE EX – Our Student Information Systems (SIS), also referred to as EX, has dependencies on information that is stored on the Z-drive. Employees should NOT attempt to use EX while the moving process is active.
- NO ACCESS TO NETSTORAGE – Employees will not have access to NetStorage, the file access utility that enables employees to access their network files from off-campus through use of a web browser.
After the moving process has been completed
Impact to employees after the moving process has been completed:
- NO OFF-CAMPUS ACCESS TO Z-DRIVE FILES – NetStorage, a product from Novell, has been available for employees to access network files from off-campus. This product will not work in our Microsoft Royals environment. We will be replacing it with another product that we hope to announce by September 1st.
- SECOND PROMPT FOR PASSWORD – Beginning at noon on Saturday, after the moving process is complete, employees will be prompted a second time for their password. This is required because network resources from both Novell and Microsoft networks will be authenticated during the login process. See note below for screen shot of second prompt for a password.
NOTE: Screen shot of second password prompt:
The second request for the user’s network password will look something like this:
