Winter in Riga and Tallinn
January 1st, 2010 – by Jerry Holsopple (category: Photography)
Over the Christmas break I traveled in the Baltics with my children, who are here for their vacation. The experience of these cities is really different with snow on the ground and the extended periods of darkness. It seems every square is full of stalls selling handcrafted items and other goods. While I am writing this my feet are toasty warm in a pair of wool socks from one of the stalls. Photography is challenging with the snow and darkness. Click on the photo to see more of Tallinn.
I took everyone to see the art nouveau buildings, but the photographic opportunities were limited due to falling snow and very little light. The National Opera House had a light show every evening shining on the front of the building and everywhere you looked there were Christmas lights. Click here to see more of Riga in the winter.
