This week’s Inside Athletics podcast focuses on the baseball team as Dave’s guest is new head coach, Ben Spotts. After a good start during the non-conference portion, Ben evaluates the progress being made by the team. He highlights the areas of improvement and shares his strategy for improving the baseball program. He also looks ahead to the conference competition that will be the bulk of the schedule the rest of the way. Dave takes time to introduce the plans for renovations of the baseball facilities with drawings unveiled in about 4-6 weeks and the plans for fundraising and construction.
In this week’s “Inside Athletics” podcast, Dave and James broadcast onsite from the ODAC Basketball Tournaments in Salem, VA. They recap the women’s ODAC Quarterfinal win and preview the men’s game set for Friday. They also go more in-depth into the tournament set-up with first round byes, as well as the adjustment to playing in a big arena.
In this special release of the “Inside Athletics” podcast, James brings on women’s basketball coach Kevin Griffin to give an ODAC Tournament preview. They talk about the pressure of the top seed of the tourney and the strength of their team balance. James gives a little preview of the men’s basketball tournament as well as the ODAC‘s indoor track championships, which are also this weekend.

In this week’s “Inside Athletics” podcast, Dave and James jump into the craziness of this time of year, which is the overlap of winter and spring seasons combined with the upcoming ODAC Basketball Tournaments. They talk about both basketball teams and their wins over Bridgewater earlier this week, and the play-off scenarios we are looking at heading into Saturday’s final games. James also talks about the special events surrounding all of our home games on Saturday and Sunday, including the “Mustache Event” for the volleyball men.

With recruiting in high gear among all coaches, Dave reflects on the need to articulate the value of DIII sports to parents and recruits as they are influenced with the enticement of DI or DII options. In order to counter the idea of DIII being known simply as the division that doesn’t give athletic scholarships, Dave shares some of the facts about Division III athletics.
In this week’s “Inside Athletics,” Dave and James talk about the track and men’s volleyball teams, which both opened their 2012 seasons in the past few days. They also dig deeper into the basketball teams, both of which seems to be hitting their stride midway through the season. Dave ends the podcast with a short recap of NCAA Convention he attended last week.

This week, Dave reports directly from the NCAA annual convention being held in Grapevine, Texas. Sue Kolb, women’s soccer coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Student Athlete Well-being joins Dave in reporting on educational sessions they each attended as well as general observations about the annual convention. Issues of compliance, social media, fundraising and concussions are just a few of the topics covered in the educational sessions. Dave also provides a brief overview of the conference in general and the governance structure of the different divisions.
