They give an overview of the tournament, which has featured a few upsets already, and then talk about all that’s going on on this busy weekend, both in Harrisonburg and around the stats.
This week’s special edition of the Inside Athletics Podcast features the ODAC basketball tournament preview. Dave’s guests are head men’s basketball coach, Kirby Dean and head women’s coach, Kevin Griffin. With the men currently holding the #5 spot with one game remaining, they will host a first round game against the #12 team on Tuesday night with the winner going on to Salem for the quarterfinals on Friday. Kirby talks about the gradual improvement of the Runnin’ Royals and their approach to the tournament. He also gives his insights on the parity that exists among ODAC teams this year. The women clinched the #1 spot in the tournament with a win at Shenandoah this week and will begin play next Thursday at 1pm. Coach Griffin reflects on playing all season with “the bull’s eye” on their back and how the team has come together throughout the season, particularly after the loss of sharp-shooting Marla zumFelde. He also shares his perspective on the tournament and what it will take to win it all.
In this week’s “Inside Athletics” podcast, Dave and James take an in-depth look at the EMU sports currently in action, going team-by-team. Topics include: alumni and Hall of Honor receptions, a new development in injury treatments at EMU, finishing a season strong and starting a new season on the right foot.
This week Dave’s guest is head cross country and track and field coach, Jason Lewkowicz talking “everything track and field”. Jason shares his perspective the indoor season and its relation to both the outdoor track season and the cross country seasons. He also provides insights on the training and practice plans for the different track participants, often specializing the workouts for each athlete and setting individual goals. Finally he gives a quick overview of some of the highlight performances so far this indoor season and what we might expect for the outdoor season.

They spend most of their time going over Dave’s recent Old Dominion Athletic Conference meetings, highlighting some of the significant discussions they had. This will also be the final “Inside Athletics” podcast until the first week of January.
