The department provides the following services to EMU programs and departments:
We design print materials for external audiences and provide templates, downloadable logos and advice to empower departments to also prepare their own materials that meet EMU brand ID standards. Project and office coordinator Jessica Hostetler processes print requests with creative director and brand ID manager Jon Styer.
Note the forms on the right to complete request forms for specific projects.
Our media relations manager, Mia Kivlighan, and editor-in-chief Lauren Jefferson generate content and distribute through a variety of channels. We are always interested in tips about faculty, staff, student and alumni stories. Please submit those to the editor-in-chief, .
Our front-end web developer and analyst, Joshua Lyons, and web project manager and strategist, Laura Lehman, are responsible for the award-winning EMU website. Please complete a web request form on the right of this page with web-related needs or contact Laura directly.
Many departments and offices have web editors who maintain and/or develop department-related web pages within the CMS, or content management system.
We use Campaign Monitor and MailChimp for email campaigns and can provide assistance with your questions. See email campaigns.
Marketing staff take cues from the university web calendar. EMU faculty and staff are expected to add program event information to the online calendar system via emu.edu/events/admin. All faculty and staff have access to the system via their Royals username and password. Special users are granted additional access – such as the power to delete events – by the web content manager/strategist. Students who coordinate events are granted access via their work-study accounts as needed.
Photography and Videography
Our department manages images for EMU social media, print and web use. Submit a photo request to work with a photographer, to review our stock of EMU photos, or for any photo-related question.
Policy for faculty/staff personnel photos: To maintain consistent style in print and electronic communications, all personnel photos must be taken by EMU photography staff. This ensures continuity of style: outdoor setting, no flash, and a shallow depth of field. We coordinates at least one “photo day” per semester gather images of new faculty and staff and those in need of updated portraits.
Similarly, our digital media specialists produce videos for priority clients and for special events.
Lauren Jefferson, university editor-in-chief, produces two issues annually of our alumni magazine, Crossroads, and one issue per year of Peacebuilder, the magazine of the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. Both also have digital editions.

Credit and Attribution
Our office often credits student and staff writers, photographers and videographers whose work is used on the EMU video blog, the EMU news blog and within the annual EMU wall calendar. Though student and staff work may be featured in other marketing efforts, we do not routinely credit individual interns or staff whose work is used in advertisements, brochures and other print materials, on university web pages, social media, or email communications.
