Chapel Forum: Suspicions of a Black Man - David Evans

Where Lehman Auditorium

Duration 30 minutes

Dr. David Evans will reflect on his experience as a black man in the criminal justice system. He says, “My experience added to the data on black men incarcerated in the United States even though I committed no crime. Knowing that U.S. society is so suspicious of black men that experiences like mine are possible, should make us all cautious to assume that we know what it means when we hear that one-third of black men can expect to be incarcerated in their lifetime. And we should recognize that this knowledge makes us responsible to resist the segregated circumstances that make suspicions against black men thrive in our society.”

David Evans serves as Assistant Professor of History and Mission at Eastern Mennonite Seminary.
