Earthquake preparedness and awareness event

Duration 1 hour

Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is encouraging all public and private institutions to take part in a state-wide earthquake awareness drill on October 18, 2012, at 10:18 am.

It is the Great Southeast Shake Out and is a multi-state simultaneous earthquake drill. See http://www.vaemergency.gov/readyvirginia/stay-informed/earthquake/great-southeast-shakeout

EMU is taking the opportunity to review earthquake awareness planning. Faculty and staff will be invited to take a few minutes to discuss earthquake safety during class at the appropriate time on Oct. 18.

Details about what to do in the event of an earthquake are posted on EMU’s crisis web page listed below.

Questions should be directed to Ken L. Nafziger, crisis management planning chair.
