Theater Auditions - Fall productions

Where University Commons, MainStage Theater

Duration 2 hours

All EMU students are invited to audition for the fall 2012 Theater department productions: NO ROOSTERS IN THE DESERT by Kara Hartzler (EMU ’94) and SILENCED AUCTION by Elizabeth Gannaway (Senior Thesis Project).

NO ROOSTERS IN THE DESERT by Kara Hartzler. Oct. 12-27 MainStage Theater

In this riveting play – based on actual interviews by Anna Ochoa O’Leary – four women trek the desert towards the American dream. On their way they push the limits of their physical and emotional endurance, as they establish profound yet fragile connections with each other through the magical storytelling of the youngest of them, an indigenous woman from Chiapas. Directed by EMU theater prof. Heidi Winters Vogel

SILENCED AUCTION by Elizabeth Gannaway. Nov. 30-Dec. 1 Lee E. Eshleman Studio Theater

Liz says, “The central story to be shared…is one that I have written from information gained through my travels and research of the horrors of human trafficking and the sex trade, specifically in India. The main character, Natya, is a thirteen-year-old Indian girl who has been tricked into joining and forced into staying in the sex trade. Natya’s story, though technically fictional, exemplifies very similar stories of the twenty-seven million people trapped in slavery today.” Directed by Elizabeth Gannaway in partial fulfillment of her Senior Theater Thesis.
