Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Shenandoah Valley
Children’s Choir will present a joint concert 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Lehman Auditorium. (See campus map)
Children’s choir
The
Treble and Concert Choirs from the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir (SVCC) will be
performing under the direction of founder, Julia J. White and accompanied by
Maurita Eberly, piano and John Fast, organ.
Youth orchestra
The Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra is part of EMU’s Preparatory
Music Program. With 41 members from Rockingham, Augusta,
Shenandoah, Page and Alleghany counties as well as West Virginia, this auditioned group will
perform “Hoe-down” from Rodeo by Copland, the Overture to “The
Barber of Seville” by Rosinni, and “Finlandia” by
Sibelius.
Other performers
In addition the group will accompany Ryan Stees, euphonium, on
a concerto by Horowitz. Stees is a senior at Harrisonburg High School
where he is active member in the music program. He is the son of Kevin
and Rhonda Stees. The ensemble is conducted this semester by Rhonda Stees.
